Make Packing Easy With Customizable Boxes

If you are in the business of shipping products to your customers, you know how important the logistics of shipping are. You can have the perfect product, fantastic systems, and the best team, but if you don’t have the right packing materials,  you will end up with problems. The most common problem is not having the right size packaging for your unique items. This can be resolved with boxes that you can customize.

Proper Packaging Protects Your Products

There are a few ways that item you ship can get damaged. If the item is dropped from too high, if the box is stepped on or rolled over, or if it is left out in the rain, you expect there to be damage. In these scenarios, all you can do is the best you can do. Fortunately, a far more common issue is easily avoided if you package your merchandise properly. 

Packaging should fit snugly on whatever you are shipping. Even with a heavy-duty, durable box, you will end up with damage if the box doesn’t fit properly. If the box is bigger than you need, your product will shift and get banged up in transit. 

There are a couple of ways to make your packaging fit properly, that doesn’t involve purchasing custom packing material. 

Securing in Package

For some products, it is practical to secure them directly to the packaging material. This might be done via tape, zip ties, or some other means. This technique is very effective in some scenarios but typically works best when paired with a properly sized package. One technique is to secure the item into a box, then put that box into a larger shipping box along with spacers. This obviously adds complexity to the packing but will yield a safe product.

Protective Materials

The other solution to having a box that is too big is to fill the gap with protective materials. There are a wide variety of these materials on the market. Options like bubble wrap or corrugated wrapping are intended to protect the item from impact damage but could be used to fill gaps if needed. This is not an efficient use of this material.

Styrofoam packing peanuts are another option that is often used, but there are some drawbacks. Styrofoam is not typically recyclable, and it does not biodegrade. Many businesses find that their customer base is not fond of receiving a box full of packing peanuts. There are other alternatives, like corrugated shreds, molded paperboard spacers, and corner wedges, but each of these products is better suited for filling small gaps in a well-fitted box, rather than making an inappropriate box work. 

Custom Packaging Is More Economical Than You Think

It is clear that custom packaging would give the best appearance and fit for your product. There is probably no one who would argue otherwise. The argument most people use against it is cost. If you are shipping a consistent supply of one specific product, the economies of scale kick in, impacting the cost per piece very positively. 

When you consider the amount of packaging that goes into making improper packaging work, some of the added cost goes away. Add in the improved quality perception for your customers who receive the items you send, and the cost differences seem much less worrisome. 

No matter what you are shipping, having it arrive intact is vital. Investing a little extra into customizable shipping boxes will streamline your process and increase your value perception to your customer, making it an easy investment to choose from.
