It started small in British Columbia on 23 January 2022, with only a few semi-trucks. The protest initially began because the Canadian authorities started enforcing vaccine mandates for drivers crossing into the United States to deliver or pick-up loads before returning to Canada. As the public and the Internet chimed in offering both monetary and physical support, more vehicles joined in, creating a massive convoy which was cheered on by crowds along the roadside and gathered on highway overbridges.
The first vehicles reached Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on 28 January 2022, converging on Parliament Hill and cheered on by waiting supporters. Additional vehicles with other truck convoys continued arriving throughout the day, with more expected tommorrow and Sunday. Citizen supporters are also continuing to grow in number.
During the trip, the protest expanded to a demand for authorities to repeal/cancel all of the COVID mandates and restrictions for ALL the Canadian citizens. The call became a cry for FREEDOM!

Canadian truck drivers now need to be fully vaccinated if they want to avoid a two-week quarantine and pre-arrival molecular test for COVID-19 before crossing into Canada. The Canadian federal mandate for cross-border truckers went into effect on 15 January 2022.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance and the American Trucking Associations say up to 26,000 of the 160,000 drivers who make regular trips across the Canada/United States border are likely to be sidelined as a result of the vaccine mandate.
