Does God Select Kings?
We love to “blame God” for some things that God did not order, and perhaps nowhere do we do so more consistently than when it comes to national leaders. But I want to question the assumptions on the commonly held belief that God selects kings, presidents, and other world leaders.

“Does God Select Kings?”
Nope. History shows it’s the other way around. Kings select gods. Without fail they have all associated themselves with gods and as living gods to justify their position. God (which ever god they selected) must have wanted them to be king by insuring they were born heir to a kingdom.
Add: They didn’t think of gods the same way most people do today. God was an abstract term that meant anything that could and did affect their lives, basically ‘nature’, but also man made. From solar flares to plagues of fleas, from despotic dictators to gladiator slaves, who were considered ‘the peoples true gods’, because people followed them like we follow sports/pop stars.
Their devotions were practiced in a mix and match fashion, which depended on their current needs. Eg Isis Meri/Mary for child birth problems, Baal for drought problems, Mithras for protection in warfare, Dionysus for celebration of abundance, etc. Not as people do today, associate themselves with a single religion and a single deity.
