Footsteps of Sorrow

She feels her fragile beating heart

One with his own heart from the start

Vulnerable, exposing all her emotion

in him she seeks a safe haven

Shelter from life’s turbulent ocean.

Her voice whispers muted cries

As she peers into those tired eyes

Of her precious Saviour, her only son

Whose very breath will soon be gone.

This is the loneliest place

She touches gently his bruised face

Her prayer is quiet contemplation

The still small voice of calm and adoration.

Taken in trepidation these footsteps of sorrow

She shudders to think of what awaits tomorrow.

This is a reflection upon the 4th Station of the Cross. Jesus Meets his Mother Mary. Mary’s heart is heavy, her footsteps full of sorrow, she does not know the resurrection yet, her grief is unbearable.
