This Morning

This Morning

This morning

begins with darkness in the sky,

engaged in an unfinished

conversation with the night.

There is a chill in the air

as my waking body awaits

the re-emergence of the reassuring morning light.

Today the church building is cold,

for the autumn wind howls

through open doors,

as covet-19 is still lingering

As it is Friday,

a holy hour ensues.

a throne is made ready

for the presence of Christ,

who radiates eternal longing.

Wrapped tightly in an alb,

draped in a stole,

sitting on a bench,

the warmth of prayer

bathes this sacred sanctuary.

This act of liturgy,

of humble adoration,

unrestrained piety,

directed towards the God who saves me.

Blessed moment of clarity!

I realise just how small I am

in the vast ocean of unravelling seasons,

and yet how precious I am too, loved eternally

I am grateful for tiny shards of God’s grace,

for silence, enabling me to embrace this morning.
