Daily Mass

The key turns in the church’s wooden door,

opening to a definite smell of incense,

bringing forth an immediate blossoming of a sacred sense.

Stepping through the threshold of the ordinary, into a rite that speaks of the gleaming of eternity!

Vestments adorn the corpus of a man called, chosen and commissioned, ordained to the priesthood,  tasked with a holy duty, blest in a moment of time spend in Christ’s company.

The bell rings with a sharp tone, a hush descends, as hope falls afresh while death forever ends.

His head bows in adoration, as Mass will commence, a priestly heart is tuned in with reverence.

Ancient words carefully constructed speak of sacrifice, tell of love upon the cross an offering up of Christ’s innocent life.

God’s own blood spilt for the guilty, now and for ever proclaimed in a communion of sanctity.

Life, death, resurrection, recalled, made present with great affection.

The priest aware of his duty,

stood humbly at the altar remembering Christ is the very heart of this heavenly liturgy.

“Do this in memory of me” resonates throughout the whole of history as gently his hands raise Jesus’ body.

Silence overwhelms his own body, consumes his whole attention, leading to a restoration of genuine adoration.

There is little room for his personality, just a trembling appreciation of Christ’s death offered for humanity.

This tremendous ritual offered willing, celebrated gladly, attended to daily.
