The Epiphany of Our Lord is the Christian feast observed on Jan. 6, 2016. The word “epiphany” comes from the Greek epiphainen, a verb that means “to shine upon,” “to manifest,” or “to make known.” Thus, the feast of the Epiphany celebrates the many ways that Christ has made Himself known to the world, mainly the three events that manifested the mission and divinity of Christ: the visit of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12), the baptism of Jesus (Mark 1:9-11), and the miracle at Cana (John 2:1-11).
The visit of the Magi is emphasized on Epiphany Day, and Christ’s baptism is celebrated the first Sunday that follows.

There seem to be a countless number of mysteries around the Epiphany, such as the nature of the three “species” of the gifts of gold, myrrh and frankincense offered to “a king, and to a god who was to die”. Or again to the undeniable fact that the three wise men coming from far away lands represent the “First Gentile Christians”, who adored God while simultaneously venerated the Mother of God, the Blessed Virgin Mary who humbly “kept it all in her heart”. The realization that the three wise men being the First Gentile Christian, consequently made Mary, the most holy Virgin, the First Christian of the world. The Epiphany has also made me realize a somber reminding to the immediately following massacre of the Holy Innocents, which occur about 10 months after Noel, explaining the diabolical and carefully hidden excitements during the “celebration” of Halloween. The three kings came from Africa, Arabia and Mongolia, and in a supernatural way met before Jerusalem. The not-precised in the gospels, but logical date of arrival of the three kings at Bethlehem being 10 months after the Nativity explains the undisturbed mystery of the Presentation & Purification of Jesus & Mary at the Temple.
This year, the Epiphany tells me of an other mystery: it is that the “first three gentile Christians” were forced to have a passage by King Herod and his scribes before finding the true and living God, and His Mother in the flesh….

The Jews looked upon the rolls of scriptures of which they were privy, but did not find God, while the three wise men, who were both ignorant and trustful had their innocence rewarded. The shinning star re-appear after leaving Herod’s Jerusalem and they rejoiced exceedingly. The forced passage through the perfidious Jews was a dangerous hurdle, but through the non-calculated genuine good will of the three wise men, it became an elevation to the Holy Family through their sufferings due to the Flight into Egypt.
What new mystery will this typing hand discover and meditate upon next year? if God permits…
