Oreo Hot Choc Brownies

True confessions.  I am a bit of a chocoholic here and I just adore Brownies.  When it comes to chocolate bakes, brownies are at the top of my dream list and this recipe for brownies I am sharing with you today is fudgy and moist and delicious. Everything a good brownie should be. Not flimsy, not gooey, but a lovely brownie that you can hold in your hand and enjoy.  There is a secret ingredient.  Read on to find out more!
I get a Degustabox every month.  Once a month, around the middle of the month I am sent one of these lovely boxes which contain a delicious assortment of all things foodie.  I just love these boxes. Opening each one is tiny a bit like opening a Christmas gift. Always a surprise, and always filled with things that pique my interest and desire to try. Degustabox is a monthly foodie subscription service that sends out a range of 10 to 15 specially selected foodie products.

There’s always a great mix of new products that I haven’t tried before, as well as plenty of treats from more established brands. Quite often you will have the opportunity to try  new products before they arrive in the shops, so it can be a bit of a sneak peak! Each Degustabox costs only £12.99, delivery costs are included in the price, and there is no fixed contract involved – you can cancel at any time. I love getting these boxes! They are great value for money spent. Here is a bit about what was in the September box!

INDIE BAY SNACKS Pretzel Bites 1 X £0.99
Indie Bay Snacks are reinventing the classics, starting with pretzels.  These delicious bites are made using alternative flours like spelt and quinoa. that means they’re a convenient source of fibre and protein. their two new flavours Smokin’ BBQ and Easy Cheesy are vegan as well.  These are pretzels with benefits.
I received the Smokin’BBQ ones and quite enjoyed!

REESES Peanut Butter Cups 1 X £0.89
Satisfy your peanut butter passion with three incredibly delicious Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  Rich, delectable Peanut Butter Cups drenches in smooth chocolate. The perfect combination of chocolate and peanut butter.
As a North American I have been a fan of these delicious confections for my whole life. Chocolate and Peanut Butter are one of my favourite flavour combinations!  Smooth, rich and deliciously moreish!

YES! Fruit and Nut Bars £1.20
YES! Snack Bars are delicious, wholesome, and perfect for snacking on the go. These fruit bars contain no added sugar, other than naturally occurring sugars, and contain 1 of your five a day. The nut bars contain 5g of sugar and are a source of protein.
YUM. I love these snack bars.  I couldn’t pick a favourite.

JUICY FUEL COLA 1 X £1.50
Juicy Fuel Craft Cola is the brand-new craft Cola from the Juicy Shed Company. A fruit cola made from 100% natural ingredients.  No added sugar, no added chemicals, nasty e-numbers or anything that doesn’t need to be there.

Quite nice actually.

JACK DANIEL’S  Tennessee Cider    1 X £2.29
Jack Daniel’s is proud to bring you Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Cider.  By combining crisp apple cider with smooth Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, they’ve expertly blended something that’s not only distantly refreshing, but also unmistakably Jack to the core.
I couldn’t taste this as I don’t do alcohol drinks wise, but I am thinking of using it in a stew or some such later, maybe closer to Christmas.

a2 MILK Long Life Whole Cow’s Milk  1 X £1.50
a2 Milk is natural cow’s milk with a difference. It’s naturally free from the A1 protein found in regular cows’ milk so it is gentle on sensitive tummies, easy to digest and less likely to trigger symptoms associated with milk intolerance.
We quite like this and it is a product we already had in our larder.  I like that you don’t need to refrigerate it until it is opened, which makes it a great store cupboard ingredient.

GOOD HEMP Hemp Seed Hearts 1 X £3.99
Our Hemp Seed Hearts are natural hemp seed kernels which have a delicious, light and nutty flavour.  High in protein and omegas 3 & 6, they are the perfect healthy and filling snack. alternatively, sprinkle on cereal, porridge, yogurt, soup and salads, or use in baking. Enjoy!

I have always been a fan of Dr Karg’s Pumpkin and Emmenthal crisp bakes.  These were just as good. Crisp and delicious. Not usually a fan of tomato flavoured crackers as they can sometimes come off tasting like powdered soup mix, but these were good.

MALLOW & MARSH  Raspberry Marshmallows, coated in 70% Dark Chocolate
Marshmallows with Character, whisked to gooey perfection. I didn’t receive any information about these, but I can tell you that they are amazingly tasty, with no artificial colours or flavourings.  Very, very good.

Summer butter, sugar, eggs and four.  Together they combine to create a crunchy biscuit that wins everyone over because of butter, caramelised sugar and a hint of spice.  A Belgian classic!

CADBURY OREO Instant Hot Chocolate 1 X £2.99
Cadbury Oreo Hot Chocolate is the newest addition to their Hot Chocolate range, bringing the Oreo biscuit taste to life in a delicious way! Simply put 4 heaped teaspoons of Cadbury Oreo Hot Chocolate into a mug, pour on hot water and stir for a delicious moment.

No surprise this was the secret ingredient in my delicious brownies!  Ariana was telling me the other week about these delicious brownies she makes using a drink mix and I thought why not try to make a brownie using the Cadbury’s Oreo Instant Hot Chocolate!

These are FABULOUS brownies!  Dense and chewy . . .  moist, not dry . . .  fudgy!

A hold in the  hand brownie that your family will love.  You could of course top with crumbled Oreo biscuits for even more of an Oreo flavour, with a Vanilla butter cream. That would also be wow.

I was a guest at a television show several years back, when we were living down South. There were Celebrity Chef’s in attendance and some other Celebs, and they did a Brownie challenge.  To be honest, I don’t  think any of them had any idea of what a perfect Brownie should look or taste like.  Their idea of a moist Brownie was a raw Brownie, seriously, they were molten.  That is not a good Brownie people. You should be able to pick a Brownie up.

You can pick these up and enjoy them with a lovely hot cuppa or a cold glass of milk. They would make the perfect after school treat or be a great inclusion to the lunch box!

I didn’t have any Oreo cookies so I just chose to top them with a mix of vanilla and dark chocolate chips which worked very well, and actually photographed well.

I also cut the recipe in half as there are only two of us and one of us hates chocolate bakes. (I know who hates chocolate bakes???) In any case I hope you will give these a go!
Yield: 16

Oreo Hot Choc Brownies

prep time: 10 minscook time: 30 minstotal time: 40 mins
Delicious fudgy and moist brownies created by using  Oreo Hot Chocolate drink powder. These are very good!
ingredients:
95g granulated sugar (1/2 cup)
100g soft light brown sugar (1/2 cup)
185g plain flour (1 1/3 cups)
210g hot chocolate drink mix (1 1/2 cups)
1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
180g melted butter (3/4 cup)
2 large free range eggs, lightly beaten

To decorate: (all optional)
chocolate butter cream icing
(Store bought or your favourite recipe)
a mix of white chocolate and dark chocolate chips

Crumbled Oreo cookies

instructions:
Preheat the oven to 180*C/350*F/ gas mark 4.  Line a 9 by 13 inch baking pan with baking paper set aside.
Whisk together the melted butter, vanilla, and eggs.  Set aside.
Sift
together the hot drink mix, flour and baking powder.  Stir in both
sugars and the salt, breaking up any brown sugar lumps with your
fingers.  Stir in the wet ingredients until well incorporated. (It will
be very thick. If you think it is too thick, add  touch of water, but
just a touch.)  Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
Bake
in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until set and a toothpick
inserted in the centre comes out clean.  Set on a wire rack to cool.

Spread
the cooled brownies with the butter cream and sprinkle any optional
decorations on top. Cut into squares to serve.  Store any leftovers in
an airtight container.
