Manzanar is Coming Again!

This email below is from a high school friend. It is hard to believe that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt cast loyal Americans of Japanese Ancestry (AJAs) into these relocation centers (concentration camps) during World War II right here in California. If it can happen then, it can happen again now for all you (me included) “right wingers.” The United States is building similar concentration camps on military bases across the nation called FEMA National Emergency Centers (NECs). If riots break out for any reason whatsoever and President Obama declares martial law, he will throw all of us who protest into these concentration camps. Do not think it will never happen here in the good old USA. It can, and it will, if we sit back and allow the march of Marxist-socialism to continue until we lose all of our rights and freedoms.

Back during the late 80s when my kids were young… not grade school age yet, I took the family to Reno in a rented minivan.  My brother-in-law suggested that rather than take Hwy 5 back to LA, I should take highway 395 which is east of the Sierras when we drive back to LA… “It’s a beautiful drive.”   Took his advice… it was indeed a beautiful drive… beautiful scenery along the way…. and looking right, seems the Sierras was there accompanying us.

Somewhere while driving along that narrow winding highway, I passed two entrance stone columns, which I thought I recognized in the movie “Farwell to Manzanar” I had recently seen on TV.  I told the wife that I was turning around to go back to take a look.  When we got to the stone columns, we all got out of the car… I went up to one of the stone columns.  A bronze plaque said ”Manzanar.”  So this was the place.  One of the WWII relocation camps.   We walked beyond the stone columns… there was nothing except small trees, bush, and tumbleweeds… no barbwire, no buildings, no roads… the camp was gone…  only these 2 stone columns… The author of the book “Farewell to Manzanar” was right… the Sierras were beautiful.  Knowing what had happen 45 years ago, I couldn’t stop the tears….

Trout Fishing In Manzanar In The Eastern Sierras During WWII

During the War, it is estimated that 200 to 300 Manzanar internees at one time or another crawled under the barbed wire & went trout fishing along the nearby streams – - – some even hiked into the High Sierras after the Golden trout – - – Dan Hashimoto’s father and his uncle was among those who did it quite frequently.  This saga is being documented by Cory Shiozaki, a cousin of Masako (Uyeno) Kawase and Mae (Uyeno) Nakagawa (GBC Jr YBA members in the ’50s& ’60s), and his effort was featured in a KNBC news telecast recently – - – most of the photos in the telecast are those taken by Dan’s father – - – check out the following:
