Self-licking Ice Cream Cone

When 1,600 people applied for 36 jobs in a Maryland ice cream factory, Congress said that we need to import more foreign workers to do such jobs that Americans will not do.  That is because Congress is a self-licking ice cream cone.  To wit, these politicians pass laws that cost a lot of taxpayers’ money to implement, which eventually create problems (e.g., ObamaCare).  Then, they pass more laws that throw a lot of money at the problems to solve those problems—problems that they had created in the first place with the earlier laws.

When they achieve a modicum of success, they claim victory in solving the problems—that they had created in the first place.  The process goes on ad infinitum.  That, my dear friends, is an example of the self-licking ice cream cone that we call our Congress—a self-perpetuating machine that accomplishes very little but have cost us taxpayers now approaching $18 trillion of national debt.  This is a good reason why we must reduce the size of government by at least 50%.

Validation that Congress (and all of our government) are CONTRACTORS. By definition, a good contractor is one who is able to (through lies, deceptions, half-truths and flattery) convince you that you have a problem that he can fix, designs a solution that is so convoluted and complex that it is nearly (but not completely) cost-prohibitive to implement, that requires him to ‘build-himself-into-the-solution’ so that his help is MANDATORY to future success, while giving no acceptable ‘completion gates’ that could prove (or not) his ‘problem elimination’ success (or failure).

Basically, he builds work for himself, into your project, so that you can’t continue without him, can’t replace him, will take a loss to lose him, and all the while, knowing that his continued ‘identification of further problems’ is assured, but so will his complex, convoluted solutions be.

The real answer is to fire the contractor, return to your original problems, and SOLVE THEM YOURSELF! (like you should have, all along).

Not a bad idea. However, if we did that, we would not have a representative republic any longer. I am for cutting the government elephant in half, which includes 50% of our elected officials, i.e., one U.S. senator from each state and 1/2 of the 435 members of the House of Representatives. Since they accomplish very little anyway, 50% of the Congress would get just as much done–perhaps more.
