Please join the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse on Thursday, June 24th at 3:00 p.m. EDT for an informational webinar about mitigating the threat of school violence as the U.S. “returns to normal” from the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
Representatives from the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis and the DHS Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships will discuss their recently released public awareness bulletin, which indicates school communities face a heightened risk of targeted violence as they resume in-person operations and students return to campus this fall.
The webinar will cover the current threat environment, major trends, and risk factors as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic; the development of comprehensive local prevention frameworks to mitigate the threat of school violence; and an overview of existing Federal government resources available for schools to access as they prepare for back-to-school season. The session will also include a question and answer period for participants to engage directly with DHS staff.
- When: Thursday, June 24th, 2021, 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. EDT
- Who: K-12 School Superintendents and Principals; School and District Administrators; Teachers and School Staff; School Resource Officers and Local Law Enforcement
Additional details about the webinar will be provided upon registration. If you have any questions, please contact the DHS School Safety team at [email protected].
This webinar is part of the 2021 School Safety Webinar Series, a program hosted by the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse to address emerging risks and threats facing the K-12 school community. Held on a monthly basis, the webinar series covers a range of school safety topics, and provides information on the resources, tools, and best practices available to equip school leaders with a set of strategies in creating safer and more resilient school systems.
The Federal School Safety Clearinghouse is a federal government interagency collaboration comprised of the Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, and Justice to provide a comprehensive and centralized location for federal school safety resources. The Clearinghouse reviews, collects, and distributes guidance, tools, best practices, and actionable recommendations to improve safety and security within school communities. The DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) manages the department-wide processes for coordinating and executing the intelligence cycle at both the federal and local levels. By integrating its capabilities with those of other DHS Components, I&A enhances threat identification, mitigation and response across the Department’s mission areas. Additionally, I&A formulates and implements key strategies and initiatives that address critical barriers to information sharing.
The DHS Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3) supports communities across the United States to prevent individuals from radicalizing to violence and intervene when individuals have already radicalized to violence.
