Some Google employees are raising concerns about the Internet giant’s work with China on a censored Internet

China is the world’s Ultimate Crony Capitalist State and as we said yesterday we are not surprised to hear of Google’s partnership with the Communist Party dominated country.

However we are disappointed even given Google’s now long track record of cronyism. Apparently some Google employees are disappointed also. We imagine that it would be a serious bummer to work on such a project. Even though Silicon Valley has become more authoritarian in recent years there are still people who remember freer days.

Staff inside the internet giant’s offices have agreed that the censorship project raises “urgent moral and ethical issues” and have circulated a letter saying so, calling on bosses to disclose more about the company’s work in China, which they say is shrouded in too much secrecy, according to three sources with knowledge of the matter…

…The internal furor began after The Intercept earlier this month revealed details about the censored search engine, which would remove content that China’s authoritarian government views as sensitive, such as information about political dissidents, free speech, democracy, human rights, and peaceful protest.

It must be understood by our readers that the concept of “liberalism” (not the modern version, but real liberalism, open minds and open markets) is seen as a deep threat to China and more importantly the Chinese Communist Party. The basic human rights we hold dear (or at least that many of us hold dear) are seen as anti-Chinese by much of Chinese leadership. This should be kept in mind when we hear about US Senators (Dianne Feinstein) employing Chinese spies for 20 years and enjoying sweetheart crony deals in China. We should keep this in mind when “social justice warrior” students at UC San Diego run off the Dali Lama because he’s considered a a dissident voice in China. We should keep this in mind when Maoist rhetoric emerges on the streets of Berkley under antifa’s black and red flag.
