The Culture Of Employment: Creating Deranged Individuals By Design

If you are to be successful you must employ the personal branding tactic. This means, you must present yourself to the world in order to be approached by potential employers/ head hunters. On one level, this makes absolute sense. You want people out there to recognize you and to make all the connections you can. There is a downside, however. When the personal branding trend spins out of control, we cannot be surprised there will be many ready to literally walk over bodies to get what they want. Instant celebrity and infamy is one of the most powerful personal branding messages you could come up with. Yet, our civilization also tells us to toe the line. Be creative and toe the line? No wonder we keep seeing so many disgruntled individuals ready to do anything to get back at the system. The system does not exist out in the open, but is represented by people and institutions. All it takes for a potential perpetrator is to view someone as the system’s representation; the rest you know. The message people are receiving is a mutually exclusive one – leading to schizophrenic mindsets. This is the core of the problem: a culture of paradox with no visible way out running amok.
