Market Research for Talent, Part 4: Recruiting College Graduates and Diverse Candidates

 This article is part four in a series where we discuss simple ways to use labor market data to build your talent strategy. 

Scenario: Now it’s time to turn your attention to the talent in the postsecondary system. What schools graduate the most graphic designers? Where can you set up direct relationships to make sure those students know about you and what you need?

Answer: In 2017, 288 people in North Carolina graduated from graphic design programs. Lenoir Community College had the most, followed by North Carolina State University at Raleigh. If your computer programming firm doesn’t have a relationship there already, it might be wise to create one. We also see that nearly all of these graduates are U.S. citizens, and 126 are considered diverse. Good to keep in mind. 

Real-World Example

A major American bank used college data to plan campus visits and meet hiring and diversity goals. After using the data in its recruitment strategy planning, the bank reduced time to hire by 40%, increased female hiring from 13% to 35%, and increased minority hiring from 11% to 26%.
