The Market Ticker - Why 2024?

I’ve gotten more than a few emails over the years asking why 2024?

I keep saying I’ll do an article on it sometime — well, today’s the time.

Way back in the mid 1990s, when MCSNet had been running for a couple of years and I was now in the enviable position of providing what most people think of as “benefits” to go with a job (when MCSNet started it was one dude in a closet, literally, with a hand-built rack of modems and one 80386 tower computer!), having grown from one dude in a closet through one additional person and then adding a few more.  At a certain point you start to think about acting like a business that might turn into a large business, instead of a single entrepreneur with perhaps one or two people who you hire, none of whom (including you!) get anything called benefits.
