I live in NYC. Residential rent prices haven’t dropped yet. There is definitely a retail residential apocalypse as most businesses have closed for good. This stated before COVID-19.

I was in New York City on Friday and boy did it look like a ghost town. The normal crowds seem to have vanished!!! The line to go to the statue of liberty was empty. Fewer people walking around and this was during the daytime! 

Anyone working from home, in the long run can have their job done from anywhere in the world, for a much cheaper cost. they are shooting themselves in the foot.

I lived in Manhattan for some time. Just arrived back after a 2 month break. The city has a different feel. Times Square specifically feels like a mix of Chelsea with all the ‘new normal’ outdoor dining On the flight back, I thought it would be a lot worse… it’s not horrible but it is different What IS bad is all the hoodlums wandering the streets. It makes you feel uneasy!

New York’s dead right now. Half the businesses are closed, the open ones don’t fill up. People are still here because they don’t have a choice!

It’s all going down due to the sociopathic behavior by the .1%

I am a railroad train conductor and I live in Queens, NY and here is my view. There are a lot more crackheads and bums walking around Manhattan. Just the other day, my friend who lives in Manhattan told me there were shootings in the middle of Midtown Manhattan in the afternoon which is unheard of. My trains has had the lowest passenger count in 20 years (since they’ve hired on) according to my coworkers. Most people aren’t returning to office buildings and if they do, it’s only for once or twice a week

As for the real estate front, Queens, NY is seeing price drops but non significant (less than $50,000) on $750,000 to $1 million dollar homes but no one is really buying. Many are moving to suburbs and rural areas in the Poconos, upstate, Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey. I’ve seen some businesses that are closed but not too many believe it or not.

My friend who own two restaurants, told me that he is getting a few take outs each day.
