What is the Difference Between Pea Protein Powder and Whey Isolate?

When it comes to finding the right type of protein powder you should be taking as part of your regular diet, it can very easily become a tricky situation.  This is because you are going to be unique from anybody else, meaning that you are going to require a different ratio of ingredients in order for you to obtain your health goals.  And when it comes to protein, if you are taking the wrong kind, it can actually work against you by preventing any forward progress to those very same health goals. 

On top of that, it can also potentially cause you to have negative side effects as well.  This is going to be exactly the reason why you need to make sure that you are taking the right type of protein powder for your body and your health goals.  Here is everything that you need to know about protein and making sure that it is the right one for you.

What Exactly is Protein Powder?

Protein is going to be a nutrient that is normally found in several different types of foods, those including meats, nuts, beans, and diary.  It is going to consist of amino acids, which are going to be very beneficial to your body in the form of healthier hair, skin, muscle development, and bones.  For those who are not able to get as much protein into their system as their body requires from the foods that they eat regularly, a protein powder is going to be a great way to make up that difference. 

Protein powder is essentially going to be a very nutrient dense and extremely convenient way that you can consume a concentrated protein supply in a very short amount of time.  On top of that, protein powder is also going to have a much quicker absorption time, as well as be easier for your body to digest when compared to the foods you eat.

Keeping that in mind, you also must know that there are many different types of protein powders available to you.  The trick for you is going to be finding the one that suits your individual needs the best.  The two main types of protein powders are going to be whey protein and pea protein.

Whey Protein

Whey protein is by far the most popular type of protein powder on the market.  It is made as a cheese byproduct, meaning that even though hit is going to be high in protein, it is also going to contain lactose, meaning that it will not be a good choice for you if you suffer from lactose intolerance.  However, there are some grassfed whey protein powders that have been ultra-filtered, the purpose of this being to get rid of the lactose that it naturally contains.  

Pea Protein

Pea protein is going to be derived from yellow split peas, which makes it dairy-free.  This means that pea protein contains no lactose of any kind.  Pea protein is going to supply you with all of the different amino acids, the one exception to that being methionine.  It is a naturally gluten-free protein that is also hypoallergenic (this is going to be good if you suffer from any common allergens). 

What makes pea protein so popular, is that it can be taken by those with dairy allergies, yet yields similar health results when compared to whey protein.  Finally, pea protein is going to be a slower digesting protein, which means that you will have a longer release of protein into your system after you have digested it.  Because of this, pea protein is more commonly used after a workout.

Whey Protein or Pea Protein?

Figuring out which of the two proteins is going to be the right one for you to use is going to require you to do a couple of things first.  For example, you are going to need to take a look at your health goals, your fitness routine, and eve your body type.  While both types of proteins are going to be great in providing you with amino acids and other nutrients, the one that you decide to take is going to depend upon you. 

If you have any dairy allergies, pea protein may be a better fit with your lifestyle.  If you are looking for an excellent protein that you can take before, during and after your workouts, you may want to go with the whey protein.  The best thing that you can do is to try them both out and see which one makes you feel better and fits in better with your current lifestyle.
