Yes, it is a ton of work, but I am here as living proof that it can be completed. Younger Steaders…. it is an enormous amount of work to build an off grid stead, but you will actually, (yes actually) get to the point where you can sit back and say, “Done”. When the big infrastructure work is finally completed. Sure there will always be improvements, embellishments and the daily chores, but it will all be there, and it will all work. And then you get to live it without the Groundhog’s Day of endless construction. It took us 8 1/2 years, surgery and a multitude of hurdles, but……. “Done”. Time to just close the gates and live. My motto at my age has been, “The last third gets to be mine, unapologetically.” Keep at it.
