Poll results. Oh my.

The bad news? A recession looms, for sure. The good news? It’ll be short. Shallow. Real estate will suffer. Financial portfolios will not. Inflation will continue unabated. But interest rates are near their apex.

A lot of people lost ground this year in terms of their net worth. But sadder still is that half of us have no confidence the future will be better for today’s kids. Plus, when it comes to picking the next government, the Cons are well ahead – but that lead has dropped 20 points from the last time we asked. It’s telling that ‘None of the Above’ has the second-greatest pool of voter support.

Over the last day and a half 4,200 people voted in our annual Dog Blog Poll. It’s a huge sample for a Canadian survey but, of course, everyone participating is a reader of this pathetic blog. That may help explain why three-quarters do not dread 2023. Bring it on. We’re tough.

So who are we?

Six in ten readers are over 40. A third are sixty or more. Yeah, the people with the money, houses and assets. Two-thirds have a household income between a hundred and three hundred. One in ten earn more than half a million. A quarter make less than $100,000. A third are renters. The vast majority own no investment real estate. A third have investment portfolios in excess of a million. And just wait until you find out who owns a dog!
