Wellington, Kan. — Congressional candidate Mike Pompeo and Rep. Todd Tiahrt were in Wellington to pay a visit to the residents now living in Pompeo’s mother’s childhood home.

Residents Mary Boatright and son Craig Boatright now live at the home located at 902 N. Olive in Wellington.

On hand to spend time with the Boatrights were Pompeo’s wife, Susan, and aunt Joan Conrad of Winfield.

Conrad used to live in the home when she was a child with Pompeo’s mother, Dorothy Mercer.

The Mercers moved into the home with their 10 children about 60 years ago.

“We put on little skits,” said Conrad. “Well, they weren’t little skits as much as massive productions,” Mary Boatright remembers the Mercer family from before she owned the home.

“Everyone said it was always so much fun to go to the Mercer’s…there was always something going on,” said Boatright.

Pompeo and Tiahrt have spend the last three days touring the district and meeting with voters as the time before election day widdles away.

Pompeo says for the next two weeks, the campaign will take a hometown approach, with lots of phone calls, visits and knocking on doors to “keep putting the message out there.”
