Upcoming [Michigan] Ballot Initiatives (Part II)

One other proposed amendment to our MI Constitution this Fall that demands your attention and NO vote is the Renewable Energy Amendment (aka 25 in 25). This amendment would require that 25% of Michigan’s electricity would come from renewable sources by 2025. Sounds good, right? Unfortunately, power is not generated from pixie dust. Michigan’s electricity rates will “necessarily skyrocket” (President Obama’s own words when referring to his energy plan) under this mandate. We do not have a plethora of hydroelectric power sources as do other states that would meet this mandate and take away our jobs. Jobs and people would conduct a mass exodus from our state.

We need to let the private sector work on developing economically viable alternative energy approaches without getting the government in the middle of their progress to slow it down and make it more expensive. Vote NO on this ballot proposal.

State Bar of Michigan Michael Franck Building
306 Townsend St. Lansing, MI 48933-2012

      AGENDA

•James Hohman – Mackinac Center – The Emergency Manager Ballot Initiative. James will speak on his policy brief and history of “local control” issues.
•Vinnie Vernuccio – Mackinac Center: “The Protect Our Jobs Amendment” (POJA). Will passage of this union-boss backed amendment to the constitution shut down economic growth in Michigan?
•Lana Thies – Michigan Alliance for Prosperity: “The Tax Limitation Amendment.” Why is requiring a two-thirds majority in the legislature to increase taxes a good thing?
•Mickey Blashfield – The People Should Decide: “The Bridge Initiative.” Should the people decide whether Michigan participates in the construction of a new bridge to Canada?
•Kevon Martis – Interstate Informed Citizen’s Coalition: “25×25: Constitutional Suicide.” A ballot initiative requiring that 25 percent of Michigan’s energy come from renewable sources such as wind, solar and biomass by 2025.
•Melanie Kurdys – Candidate for State Board of Education. “Common Core Standards.” What are they and how will they change the face of public education?
