I've Made a Decision

I had the honor of participating in the reenlistment ceremony for Petty Officer David Jackson, a sailor from Newton, Kansas.  He’s been in the Navy for 16 years, honorably serving his country with the support of his loving family. As we spoke, Petty Officer Jackson shared his excitement for all things Kansas. He’s rooting for the Shockers this year, as he does every year.  His young son’s name?  “David Eisenhower.”

Petty Officer Jackson’s deep-rooted commitment to Kansas and his sense of duty to the nation is not just heartening, but inspiring.  Over the past 36 months I’ve had so many similar experiences that reminded me of why I first sought to represent you in Washington, D.C.  It reminded me why I’m on the first flight nearly every Monday morning from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport to our nation’s Capitol.  I still do miss leading a small business, like the one I ran before seeking public service.  Yet, I still believe I can contribute to restoring American greatness.

That’s why Susan and I have made the decision that I will run for reelection as your congressman.  We would be honored to have your support in that effort. Over the coming ten months between now and November, I will continue to work hard every day to earn it and to keep it.
 

With your prayers and support, I have fought for our shared Kansas values. We believe in hard work, limited government, service above self, and keeping our nation safe.  I’m honored every day to stand for you in the United States Congress.

When I first sought your support, I told you that I would shoot straight with you every time; that no one would work harder than I would; and that I would spend my days doing exactly what I promised you I would do during my campaign.  If you believe that I’ve done each of those things, I humbly ask that you help me return to Congress this November.

The gulf between Kansas and Washington remains large.  In Washington, dysfunction and division rule the day, instead of the Kansas common sense we all know and cherish.  Yet since coming to office, we’ve impacted some real change. Despite a divided government, we’ve passed legislation supporting general aviation, which provides so many jobs for Kansans.  We’ve taken steps toward making energy more affordable for Kansas families.  And we’re beginning to make real progress in cutting Washington’s out-of-control spending.

For the first time since World War II, Congress has reduced total spending two years in a row.  It’s not enough, but had Nancy Pelosi remained speaker it would not have happened.  I’ve been ranked the 10th most conservative member of the House of Representatives while serving on two committees that impact the lives of every citizen of the 4th District of Kansas – the Energy & Commerce Committee and the House Intelligence Committee.

 
We’ve still got a lot of work to do.  From repealing Obamacare, to balancing the federal budget and restoring the American Dream for future generations, our job is far from over.  In the coming weeks, I’ll let you know about how you can help make this happen.  But for now, I appreciate your continued support.
