Stop the Executive Amnesty

President Obama has decided to issue an executive order granting amnesty to five million illegal immigrants without congressional approval.

Republicans must stop this unlawful action by preventing the administration from using taxpayer money to carry it out.

If Congress fails to use its constitutional power of the purse to defund this executive order, it will cede its lawmaking authority to the president and undermine the system of checks and balances that protects our freedoms.

Please send Washington a message by signing our national petition urging Republicans to stop the President’s unlawful amnesty.

This is a fight Republicans can win if they unite in opposition to the president and refuse to fund his executive order. If Republicans hold strong, they can put enormous pressure on the Democrats to abandon the president on this issue.

Our biggest challenge is getting the Republican leadership in Washington to fight this and to stop pretending to be powerless.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell all but ruled out using the power of the purse to stop the president when he said he wouldn’t fight him on spending because it might lead to a government shutdown.

However, McConnell warned the president that amnesty would upset Republicans and be like “waving a red flag in front of a bull.” This didn’t deter the president because McConnell has waved the white flag in front of him on issue after issue.

And House Speaker John Boehner has repeatedly voiced support for amnesty. He even gave the president the green light to do it administratively if Congress didn’t pass legislation. Boehner said, “do what you gotta do.”

By preemptively surrendering, Republican leaders have encouraged the president to take this unlawful action.

MCCONNELL’S CHANCE TO SHINE

We’ve been very critical of Mitch McConnell’s record of capitulation, but we will be the first to praise him if he takes a real stand on this issue. There is so much at stake and Americans desperately need Republicans to fight for them by standing up to this lawless president.

Americans are ready to unite behind Republicans if they do the right thing.

If Senator McConnell went toe-to-toe with the president on this issue, he would not only be doing the right thing, he would become a national hero.

Yes, it may lead to a temporary government shutdown because the president has good reason to think Republicans will blink. But if the party holds strong, Democrats in Congress will be forced to abandon the president’s reckless action.

Democrats were defeated this year for supporting the president’s policies. They will only get away with supporting amnesty if Republicans let them off the hook.

Republican leaders don’t want to fight this issue because they actually support amnesty and feel compelled to pay back their cronies at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who helped them fight conservative candidates all over the country.

But the unlawful way it’s being carried out should frighten all Americans. It has to be stopped and we must all do our part to fight it.
