Former Governor Phil Bredesen (D-TN), the last Democrat to win a statewide election in Tennessee, announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate earlier this week.

Bredesen is the Democrat’s top recruit and many observers believe he could win the race. If that happens, the Democrats will gain a seat that could help them retake control of the Senate.
