Oil Field Explosion Kills 2, Injures 4

Two oil workers are dead and four others have been injured in an  explosion at West Texas oil field just south of the New Mexico border.

Authorities received an emergency call before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday about the explosion about 60 miles southeast of Carlsbad, N.M., according to Loving County Sheriff Billy Hopper.

Hopper doesn’t know which company operates the oil field, he claimed.

The workers were operating an oil rig that separates production fluids, such as oil from water, he said.

Emergency personnel are at the scene but receiving updates is difficult due to radio communications being erratic and cellphones inoperable in the rural area, according to the sheriff

Extent of the injuries to the four workers was not immediately clear.
