How to Stay Informed, but Not Overload With Information

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Today, more than ever, it’s easy to find every piece of information we need. Though it sounds ideal, access to an unlimited amount of information can overload us.

Our Best Frenemy – Social Media

Social media feeds are created to stop us from leaving the app. “The end justifies the means,” remember? In the case of social networks, “means” are all those links showing up on our feeds. As a result, instead of logging out, we continue scrolling down the screen, afraid we’ll miss out on something. Overloaded and tired of so much information, we only have one question: What shall we do?

Is Deactivation the Only Solution?

Although it’s clear that social media is a source of distraction, we have to admit that it’s also a significant source of information. Granted, we don’t need most of it, but by deactivating our accounts, we’ll lose track of what we do. So, if deactivation is not the solution, what is?

• Turning on the filters and turning off the notifications—Let’s face it, we don’t want to know everyone’s opinion about everything. Not every issue has the same value for us. Use filters to prevent information overload. Turn off notifications and clear your mind from unnecessary content.

• Setting time limitations—We check our social media when we wake up, before we go to sleep, and during the day (who knows how many times). We check our social media A LOT. It’s not a surprise we get overloaded. If we want to change, we need to set limits regarding the time we spend scrolling down our feeds. It can be half an hour, an hour, even two hours per day.

• Not saving the login info—It’s convenient to enter the app by just tapping an icon on your mobile phone or logging in automatically on your browser. But, if you want to take time off from social media, avoid the straightforward way and log out every time you want to leave. The next time you want to visit the platform, you will need to log in—and we all know how boring that can be.

Let Me Entertain You

Robbie Williams’ verse – Let me entertain you is very relatable to the Internet. Everything we love and that brings us joy is just a click away from us. But what if we get scared we’ll not be able to read, hear or watch everything?

Movies and Music

Does this sound familiar: You’re with your friends, having drinks in your favorite bar, and they all talk about a film you didn’t watch or a new song you haven’t listened to. Not being able to participate in the conversation makes you feel uninformed, even ignorant.

The same thing happens on the Internet. People from all over the world share their impressions about new songs, artists, and movies, while everyone else wants to be a part of it, exposing themselves to information overload.

Remember, it’s totally fine if you’re not interested in watching the new hit series the online community is talking about. Instead of consuming everything, try to focus on things you love (your favorite artists or movie genres), and you’ll receive just the right amount of information you need. Organize the news about music and movies in a way that is engaging for you, and you only.

Casino and Gaming

If you are a casino lover and a gaming enthusiast, you are probably familiar with online casino and gaming options. With so many places to play, even deciding where to have a flutter can create a mental overload. Consider finding trustworthy websites that will provide you with the latest updates in the casino and iGaming industry, so you don’t miss valuable tips and the newest version of your favorite source of entertainment.

Regarding video games news and updates, stay focused on the game genre and producers you love, and subscribe to the websites that will update you with the most relevant news. Websites such as Niche Gamer, TechRaptor, or PC Gamer are the ones to look out for.

Be Rigorous When Selecting News Sources

No matter how hard you try to ignore the news, most of it finds its way to you. Ready or not, you are being “attacked” from so many sides, forced to consume the content you are not interested in. It’s time to put a stop to that.

Be rigorous when selecting news sources and consider signing up for apps like Feedly that will help you organize the news by aggregating information from around the web about the topic you are interested in. Forget about jumping from website to website manually because the app will do it for you while collecting articles from your favorite sources. Stop ‘doomscrolling’ today and take back control – the power is yours!
