Justin Bieber Says “Changes” Wrongly Classified as Pop by the Grammys

On Instagram Justin Bieber noted gratitude for his Grammy nominations for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for Changes. But he also shared dismay about the Grammy’s categorization of it as a pop album. That’s not what he intended. Since he had set out to make a R&B album, not a pop album, he was offended by the move.

Bieber stated, “I am very meticulous and intentional about my music. With [that said], I set out to make an R&B album. Changes was and is an R&B album.”

He went on to explain that he grew up admiring the R&B genre and he wanted to release a project embodying that sound. “For this to not be in that category feels weird considering from the chords to the melodies to the vocal style [to] the hip hop drums it undeniably, unmistakably [is] an R&B Album!”

Bieber affirmed he loves pop music and it honored him to be a nominee adding, “Please don’t mistake this as me being ungrateful, these are just my thoughts take em or leave em. Thank you to the people who fought for me to even have any noms (sic).”
