Alternative Bets to Place at Sportsbooks
Sportsbooks are a great place to put down a bet on your favorite sports. Maybe your NFL team has reached a play-off, and you want to have a flutter. It could be that you’re a fan of sports abroad and you want to see how your soccer team is doing in the English Premiership. Or you could be betting on the Olympics (when it ever happens). Of course, a sportsbook is the best place to put down these bets, but there is a lot more. A whole lot more.
There is also a huge selection of other things to bet on that aren’t sports-related. In fact, when it comes down to it, you can put a bet on almost anything and everything.
Have you got a favorite TV show? Good. Now imagine the endless betting possibilities there are. If you watched Game of Thrones, you would have had the chance to place bets on which characters would die – would Jon Snow take the throne, would Daenerys go mad, would Hodor return from the dead and claim the Iron Throne? From the obvious to the ridiculous, betting sites would give you the odds and the opportunity to bet on what could happen. There are loads of different versions of this, from which characters would die in a season to odds of a show not being renewed by a network – or even which network would renew it!
With so much going on in the world, and lots of celebrities and entertainers dominating the news, there’s always something unique to bet on. Johnny Depp resigned from his role as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and within a few hours, there were odds on who would replace him. The best odds were on Colin Farrell taking up the role again as he did (kind of) in the first film, but as soon as Mads Mikkelsen was connected to the project, the odds changed again. This all happened within just a few days, but it didn’t take long for betting sites to offer customers the chance to place the bet. It was fast, fun, and absolutely absurd.
Now imagine how popular it can be when it comes to significant events, such as the US presidential election. In the Trump versus Biden election, it wasn’t just the United States that was gripped; it was the whole world. What better time for a sportsbook then to hold a series of events. The possibilities were almost endless when it came to the election. There were bets on who would win in a debate, what could happen at the big speeches and rallies, and when it came to the actual election – whoa – things went crazy. Obviously, the best betting sites out there gave reasonable, fair odds, with loads of different markets. It wasn’t hard to find a site that saw a frenzy of election betting activity. It was a fun time to watch as a betting spectator, but also to take part – who would win which state, who would take the presidency, would Trump leave the White House?
Things Get Even Weirder
It’s great that you can place bets on lots of other things in the absence of sports, from entertainment to massive political events. But did you know that there genuinely are some weird and wonderful things to bet on? Like, really weird. You could place bets on when alien life will be proven, what year or decade the world will end (always a cheery one), or who will be the next Pope. That doesn’t seem particularly odd, they are genuine areas of interest, but it’s the various parts you can bet on for each category that is bizarre. When it comes to the world ending, would you bet on a zombie virus, an alien invasion, or even the sun blowing up and destroying the world? If it did ever happen, good luck getting your payout.
Sportsbooks are great when it comes to betting on sports. In fact, they’re great when it comes to all other aspects of the world that aren’t sport related. If you ever find yourself wanting to bet on something that, at a stretch, is a sport but errs on the side of crazy, just check out bog snorkeling, ferret bingo, or wife-carrying. Go on, look it up.
