OSRS Hunter Guide

Hunting Your Way to 99

The Hunter lets you gather wildlife for various purposes. The most popular animals to collect include Chinchompas and Salamanders as ammunition. As with all skills, you can only collect the better wildlife with a high level of skill. You’re going to spend some OSRS gold for the materials you need, but it’s a minor amount compared to what you can gain later.

So pick up your nets and traps then get hunting!

A Few Tips to Consider

Every 20 levels, the number of traps you can set increases by 1. At level 80, you’ll be able to set 5 traps. If trapping in the Wilderness, you can set an additional 1 for a max total of 6. Make use of all of them, since it does increase your XP rates.

There are many ways to level up the Hunter skill, and it’s up to you how you want to do it. There are AFK methods and ones that need more focus and concentration. Some may be fast, and others slow. Also, you may take some Hunter Potions to access some of these methods earlier than usual. They’re quite cheap on the Grand Exchange and spending OSRS gold buying them won’t put much of a dent in your wallet.

The Path to 99

Any Hunter worth their salt would start with the Natural History Quiz in Varrock Museum. It gives 1,000 XP, shooting the skill level to 9 just by answering some questions.

After that, you have the choice to run the Ascent of Arceus quest, capture Copper Longtails, or do a Birdhouse run. Whichever of these methods will get your skill level to 12-15. Your next step is to capture Ruby Butterflies up to level 29. Here, you should use a boosting potion if your level is too low.

At level 29, you can catch Green Salamanders or Swamp Lizards until you reach level 43. Move on to hunting Spotted Kebbits using a falcon to 47, and then Orange Salamanders to 59. From then on you’d be capturing salamanders (Red ’til 67, Black ’til 80). Then you have choices again. From 80 onwards you can either catch Red Chinchompas, Black Chinchompas, Maniacal Monkeys, or Herbiboars. Again, you can access these methods earlier with Hunter Level Boosting Potions or food.

As a last note, you can do Birdhouse runs throughout your Hunter skilling journey. It would only take about 5 minutes to set up, wait a few hours, and another 5 minutes to replace them. This method of training Hunter is AFK, so you could focus on leveling up in other ways while waiting. The XP given increases as the quality of wood used increases, though you should consider how much you spend on them.

Profiting From Hunting

There are a few ways of profiting from Hunting. Some of them might be a little low, but anything is better than nothing.

First, doing Birdhouse runs can reward you with Bird Nests. You can get some random seeds or rings from them, which you can sell or use. Depending on the seeds’ or rings’ rarity, they can give you a good sum of OSRS gold selling them. Then you crush the nest, which turns it into an ingredient for Saradomin Brews. Crushed Nests currently sells for 4.4k OSRS gold each, so collecting these can turn in a tidy profit.

Selling Chinchompas can also bring you wealth. Sure, Black ones sell for about 2k and Red ones for 1k gold, but the sheer amount players buy lets that accumulate to incredible amounts. Besides, these fluffy animals are good tools to use in a variety of ways, so demand will always be high.

In the same vein, Salamanders are also good to sell. They’re the cheaper alternative to Chinchompas, and accidents happen so players looking to replace their salamanders won’t be low at all. They sell for only 100-200 gold.

Conclusions

Hunter is not an essential skill to learn, but it offers alternative ways to enjoy OSRS aside from combat or crafting. There are ways to earn money with the skill too, so you don’t have to buy OSRS gold at all. You might even be able to sell OSRS gold instead. At any rate, the best thing you can do is to enjoy the game, and level up this skill.

Happy skilling!
