David Wiledio Naboho, Farmer in Burkina Faso, continues his push for more farming resilience in his local community

GMO Pundit readers, the Pundit is asking you to help a West African village.

Hildegard Epp has started a GofundMe page to help Wiledio Naboho improve ploughing capability in his village in Burkina Faso. They need 8 more oxen and ploughs for the village. Their farmed area will be expanded with this outside financial support, as well as village supplies of manure for fertiliser.

Farming in Burkina Faso has been challenging from 2019 onwards, due to Covid 19, and farmers have experienced much difficulty in accessing farming supplies including seeds, tools, and fertilizers. Additionally, since terrorism has been on the rise, villagers have at times had to run away, and stay away from working their fields, for safety. Statistics show about 1.5 million villagers have been affected by these factors. To help his local village overcome the resultant food insecurity, David Naboho, who participated in the 2019 program fellowship with Cornell Alliance for Science, is proposing to buy 8 oxen, accompanying farming tools (especially ploughs), and seed, in order to dramatically increase farming capacity for his community for the upcoming agricultural season 2022. The country is currently being run by the military, after a recent coup d’etat. Situation at this point seems to be stable, and planting season is now in need of urgent support.

The Pundit has has many interactions with David Wiledio Naboho over the last years, and has given him some personal support in the past, for example to build a well for watering his animals. Wiledio has produced impressive results on his farm from the support the Pundit has given him.
