OPINION: Confused about Brexit? You shouldn’t be.

For the first time since the Referendum, yesterday’s Parliamentary session made the strategy for true Brexiteers crystal clear.

A quick recap to open this morning’s post, and then straight into the meat of it.

Yesterday, the Slog suggested that the PM did not have to accept the EU’s Brextension offer, but even more significantly that a specific clause in that offer had an enormous booby-trap in it:

The situation was potentially complex (many commentators opined that Boris was obliged to accept it) but constitutionally the “case closed” clause changed everything: it would be a rum do indeed if any legislature could force a First Minister to accept something of such obvious malign intent coming from a foreign power*.

The key point is this: despite that clause, Mr Johnson was still gung-ho to get a truly awful WA2 through the House that would leave the open to massive financial liabilities, and close the door for any future UK Government in terms of Brexit negotiations of any substance….and perfectly happy to accept the extension up to and including its deadly landmine.

In short, we now know exactly what BoJo’s game is. And the game is up.

*Some hacks & one MP I know actually think that the bomb was Made in Britain. They have only four names on the Quisling shortlist: Grieve, Bercow, Blair and Clarke. But that’s not important right now.

This morning, the situation for keen, mild and even undecided Brexiteers wondering where their vote should go has never been clearer.

• Boris has been forced to ditch his Withdrawal Bill. This is an excellent outcome for every seeker after sovereign British independence: but it was not what the PM wanted.
• There is now a better than evens chance that we will get the Election we have been denied by the disguised Revokers since 2017. The sweet irony is that Illiberal Demagogues leader Jo Swinson engineered it: but again, it was her anti-People idiocy that got the result, not Boris.
• That election will take place at some point but No Deal has not been taken off the table to get it. It gets better and better. But again, BoJo can’t take the credit for that.
• Furthermore, we now know that only an election that delivers a committed Clean Brexit Government will allow that administration to say to the EU, “Sorry, that was an extension clause you forced upon the last lot….nothing to do with us”. No Tory government will be able to argue that.
• The outcome leaves the Labour Party – or more exactly, its devious leader – with absolutely nowhere to hide from either the electorate or his own hotheaded and delusional MPs. But if anyone does, it will be these latter ideoclowns that swing enough Members behind an early election in today’s vote: not anything persuasive from the mouth of Boris Johnson.

Let me summarise where we are thus: better to leave properly than hastily. If an election takes place even on, say, Thursday 9th January, a No Deal Brexit Cabinet could be formed within ten days, and simply cancel all existing agreements with Brussels: no €39bn blackmail money, no EIB credit or liability traps, and a minimal transition period. If you want a simple no-strings free trade deal, by all means talk to us. But on the 31st Jan, we’re gone.

OK, now onto the reality check.

From the start of proceedings three and a half years ago, I warned everyone against overconfident triumphalism. That cautionar note was not heeded, and in fact it is still apparent in almost every statement Nigel Farage makes. Time and time again, the defence and nurturing of the real People’s Vote in June 2016 has been bungled by arrogance, naivety and unreality in the Leave camp.

This time, it’s the last-chance saloon. When it comes to the forces ranged against us, nothing has changed.

The Revoker fear campaign will move from hyperdrive to Warp factor 9 in the liberal media

The right wing MSM will have only two objectives: wipe out Labour and Stop Farage

The business media from Bloomberg upwards will predict everything from global meltdown to a plague of giant killer scorpions in the event of a No Deal departure

The US Alt State incarnate as the CIA, NATO, Pentagon and the State Department will pile in with manpower and resources to stop Brexit…and Trump has his own storms to weather now: don’t expect any help from that quarter

Last but by no means least, Brussels, Frankfurt, Soros and a dozen fronts along the Gina Miller spectrum will spend whatever it takes (funnelling it if necessary via the Swinsonuts) to ensure The Right Result.

Right now, the Brexit Party is short of two things: allies among the electorate, and a proper, grown-up constituency Ground Game approach to winning seats, not votes. To get into Downing Street, Nigel Farage needs to win a seat in the Commons. This is something he has failed to do in thirty-five years of campaigning.

TBP’s greatest enemy is itself. It laps up the rambling drivel served up by Ann Widdecombe – a silly and selfish woman about whom there is not so much something of the night as the ability to give any voter the most awful fright. Single-handedly setting out to alienate every SPA Pension victim was not a clever move. But the fact is, TBP needs a solid Backto60/Waspi vote if it is to really make a difference this time. She should either recant or be told to shut up; and the Party should give a commitment to spend the €39bn saving on a policy of restitution for those who have so needlessly suffered from Big Party failure.

That last point is a good segue into the final part of this post.

Farage may well be the Man of the Hour, but he is not a man for all seasons, and TBP can only be a short-term tactical fix.  The Faragistas are not the cultural solution to Britain’s existential malaise.

That solution lies in root and branch reform.

Reform of the constitutional presentation. Creative reform of an abolished House of Lords. Reform of the educational and training ethic. Reform of the economic system. Strict regulation of financial spivs. Reform of the tax system. A massive purge in Whitehall. The defeat of extreme political correctness. The devolution of real power away from London. Draconian reform of the lobbying sector. And the enshrinement of free speech as a right to be given to every citizen prepared to tolerate it in others.

What Britain needs is a radical movement sticking up for the decent, the less fortunate, the future artisans, the provincials, and the creative community capitalists of the future.

What it needs, in fact, is a Labour Party minus the ideological socialist claptrap of closed minds.
