Twitter Sphere: Cricket (NHS), Cricket (YCCC Strip), Cricket (Slow Play)

The good side of Twitter dominated for me this week as my post about supporting the NHS this season got a lot of support – which means Likes and Retweets really – and the sponsorships have started to come in. A few people have said they are buying some of the items mentioned in the article. All good and all much appreciated.

Stimulating reading honest!!!!

The launch of the Yorkshire Cricket Club and the introduction of Nike and new sponsor and David Willey as co designer caused a fair amount of debate criticism with by far the majority (including me) being in the “that is awful” camp. Worrying decision making process in my view by the Yorkshire Board. In a season where they need as much revenue, and support, as possible to go with something so “out there” is naive. Some form of quietly understated tribute to the NHS Heroes combined with a nod to the classic traditions of the game would have been far better.

An ongoing debate amongst cricket fans, which surfaces every time England play, is the slowness of the game, with recent ODI’s taking over 8 hours and T20 the “quick” format taking 4 hours – when they were introduced it was 95 mins per innings and 15 mins interval!

As an aside can anyone explain the ECB’s rationale: they are introducing The Hundred to provide a shorter format of the game to attract a new profile of fan – one assumes those with the attention span of a nat – yet at the same time making each game a Double Header, which makes the whole event MUCH longer than a current T20.

Apart from the above the other main topic of debate was the IPL – so more cricket, but think that’s enough for one week!!
