Haiti did nothing, has no Covid to speak of: Links 2, June 11, 2021

1. Haiti has lowest Covid problems and yet did nothing at all about it and don’t touch the mRNA shots.

Haiti has one of the lowest death rates from COVID-19 in the world.

As of the end of April, only 254 deaths were attributed to COVID-19 in Haiti over the course of the entire pandemic. The Caribbean nation, which often struggles with infectious diseases, has a COVID-19 death rate of just 22 per million. In the U.S. the COVID-19 death rate is 1,800 per million, and in parts of Europe. the fatality rate is approaching 3,000 deaths per million.

Haiti’s success is not due to some innovative intervention against the virus. Most people have given up wearing masks in public. Buses and markets are crowded. And Haiti hasn’t yet administered a single COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr. Jean “Bill” Pape says a combination of factors have kept the death rate so low.

(The factors are, they didn’t think it was a big deal, didnt do anything, and probably lost as many as they would in a flu season. They have herd immunity now. And the meek…)

5. Passengers on first fully vaccinated North American cruise test positive for COVID

Two passengers aboard the first fully-vaccinated cruise ship in North America have tested positive for COVID-19.

Celebrity Millennium issued this statement Thursday:

“Today two guests sharing a stateroom onboard Celebrity Millennium tested positive for COVID-19 while conducting the required end of cruise testing. The individuals are asymptomatic and currently in isolation and being monitored by our medical team. We are conducting contact tracing, expediting testing for all close contacts and closely monitoring the situation.

Celebrity Millennium is sailing with fully vaccinated crew and guests and following comprehensive protocols that align with our destination partners and exceed CDC guidelines to protect the health and safety of our guests. All guests on Celebrity Millennium were required to show proof of vaccination as well as a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours before sailing from St. Maarten this past Saturday. This situation demonstrates that our rigorous health and safety protocols work to protect our crew, guests and the communities we visit.”

(I guess someone forgot to read the memo about turning down the PCR test cycle rate for the vaccinated. Whoops!)
