As the summer heat settles in, many Canadians will feel the above-average temperatures and thick humidity, Environment Canada forecasted(opens in a new tab) in June. 

While sources of humidity often come from places such as the Gulf of Mexico, the real culprit may be close to home — our own crops and vegetation.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada senior climatologist David Phillips, “evapotranspiration” or “crop sweat” is a major contributor to rising humidity levels and could fuel more extreme weather.

What is evapotranspiration

Evapotranspiration is the process by which plants absorb water through their roots, use it to hydrate and cool themselves, and then release that moisture into the atmosphere through tiny pores on leaves known as “stomata.”

Phillips says this is similar to how humans sweat to regulate their body temperature. “All crops sweat, all crops evaporate.”

“If there is a good amount of moisture, almost [like] an engine goes on. Through photosynthesis the plants are creating protein and the crops of corn or berries are growing,” Phillips says.

Phillips adds that the volume of moisture released can significantly impact the surrounding environment.

Sir Keir Starmer today confirmed he is considering a ban on outdoor smoking amid claims it could see Brits barred from lighting up in beer gardens or outside stadiums.

The Prime Minister told journalists on a visit to Paris he is looking at changes to smoking laws as he pointed to a ‘huge burden’ on the NHS.

According to leaked plans, the Government is set to ban smoking in some outdoor areas in a bid to improve public health.

The indoor smoking ban, which was introduced under the previous Labour government in 2007, could be extended to cover other locations.

This may include small parks, outdoor restaurants or even shisha bars, as well as areas outside hospitals and football grounds.

While they are definitely pimping the vaxx, they have managed to find a doctor that is pushing them but saying wait till new ones come out. That is fascinating. They even threw in a little truth about how the disease has become less serious over time. But never question if a vaxx is necessary or ever was.
