Final Meeting May 12th - 2010 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Commitee

The final meeting of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Commitee will take place on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. The first five (5) meetings of this 13-member commitee have taken place without any media coverage. While health care reform was in the news, the nutrition policy of the U.S. was debated essentially behind closed doors. You can register to attend the webinar and comment into the record.

These guidelines are critically important; they provide “authoritative advice for people two years and older about how good dietary habits can promote health and reduce risk for major chronic diseases.” Unfortunately, official U.S. Dietary Guidelines since 1980 have been anti-fat and low fat – emphasizing carbohydrates – up to eleven servings of grain every day.

After 30 years of low fat, how are the children doing? For the first time in history, children are being diagnosed with “adult-onset” type II diabetes.
