Church of Scientology Showers Safe Haven

The Church of Scientology recently held a “baby shower” to benefit needy families in Nashville, Tennessee.

It’s not the first time the Nashville Church of Scientology has held an event to benefit the needy, but it is the first time the Church has raised donations through a “baby shower” for the city.  This past weekend the church hosted a “Baby Shower for Nashville” with all donations going to Safe Haven.

The concept for the baby shower arose when the Director of Community Relations, Julie Brinker, announced her own pregnancy and was asked if she was planning to throw a baby shower.  Her answer was to throw a shower to benefit those who have babies or small children and are struggling.

“As I’m preparing to start a family, I’ve realized how much is needed,” says Brinker, “and I really wanted to give back to the community.”

The donations went to Safe Haven, a shelter-to-housing program, based in South Nashville that accepts the entire family. Safe Haven provides comprehensive services that empower residents to achieve lasting self-sufficiency.  According to its website, “Safe Haven has 28 years of experience in the changing field of family homelessness with proactive programs, evidence based practices and trauma informed care. We increasingly play a leadership role in education and advocacy to address this community-wide issue.”

The shelter recently underwent renovations at its 3^rd Avenue South location to incorporate more living space for the families they serve.
