Finally: Higher Media Awareness That China's Rise is the Solution to America's Need for Jobs

Finally. Here’s my theme for the week, maybe for the month, because it is THAT important.

How much common sense do we need as business people to understand the phrase “follow the money”? Do we sell products to growing markets or shrinking markets? Do we target people whose income and riches are going up or down?

Do we not as wise business people ask and answer the question “Where are the rich people, the people with less debt, the people who are in spending mode and who want to buy our products?”

As I noted in last week’s post, I am an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce here in Shanghai and it is because of their outstanding business advocacy outreach activities, namely the recent annual Door Knock Committee trip to Washington, that I took serious notice of the fact that America is making a critical mistake by not being aggressive enough with its export initiatives. This is most egregiously foolish particularly with respect to exports to China. After all, who has all the new growth and wealth? No different than the California Gold Rush, now is rightfully the China gold rush. As usual, politics gets in the way and I don’t need to elaborate on that point.

You know what folks? The U.S. has big problems now and on the horizon, but in fact, the world has plenty of money and many in the world love American products and want to buy them. Do you dispute that? And it is no more so than the rising citizens of China who would gladly increase their purchases of genuine imported American products to whatever extent they are available in China to be purchased. And it is no more so today that those same eager to buy Chinese citizens happen to also be the world’s unprecedentedly massive and newly wealthy target market. How’s that for a one-two punch? German, South Korea, Japan and England are all kicking America’s butt with regard to export programs, with a far, far higher level of exports as a percentage of GDP.

In recent days, it gives great satisfaction to finally see more and more articles across mainstream and internet media sites focusing on this critical and powerful economic point and common sense solution. Exports create JOBS people. A 1% increase in U.S. exports creates 70,000 JOBS.

So that’s it. Let’s create jobs. Let’s realize the remarkable and remarkably obvious opportunity right in front of us. Let’s encourage Washington to realize the damage of their biased political angst toward China which is doing nothing more than making life even harder for America’s middle class. Yes, make no mistake, this knife cuts both ways but right here is a powerful and indisputable way to slice it with China offering enormous benefit to America in her time of greatest economic need in modern history. The blocks are clearly at the legislative level. Yet it is also understood that at the state level, you as a citizen can make a difference and encounter less barriers. Write your Congressman, get busy as an entrepreneur. U.S. Exports to China can suddenly become a wave of economic momentum that you can be a part of, so put on your thinking cap and become a bit of a business activist if you are in any type of position to do so.
