There Can Be Hope

I came across this video on Facebook.  My fellow trustee’s wife (www.nationalww2museum.org) put it on her wall and I stole it.  Then, my friend Mike Spehn of The Mike and G Show put it on their blog wall.

My father was a high school basketball coach and then a junior college athletic director.  I have been around sports all my life and played.  I really enjoyed playing and some of my best friends today are guys I went to kindergarten, junior high and high school with! I don’t want to get all Glory Days Bruce Springsteen on you but every time I go to a high school game a tear comes to my eye.  They are such good memories for me.

Athletics taught correctly can shape your character so that you can be a good person.  There are so many great lessons that come from participating in athletics.  Unfortunately today it’s all about politically correct stuff, or just getting a Division One scholarship.  The Wizard of Westwood, John Wooden, still has a website and he codified some of the maxims I am referring to.

Anyway, here is the video.  Put yourself into the shoes of the kid.  Think what it must be like to hear someone on your side for the very first time.

Even in the most desperate moments, there is a glimmer of hope. You just have to find it, and be looking for it.
