Stock Market is closed today, and so are commodity markets.  But Silver and Gold have had a pretty good week.

Detroit, MI is in terrible shape.  Given that it’s Good Friday, I thought I’d throw in some religious economics.

This is a good argument to why the Fed’s QE1+2 policy will NOT create inflation.

Obama is going after speculators.  His popularity is down, so favorite populist targets are fair game.  Hey China, oil and insurance companies, you are next.

Now, follow the bouncing ball of left wing logic.  Oil is bad.  It pollutes.  We must do all we can to curb exploration, production, and distribution of oil.  Ethanol is good, it comes from plants.  Let’s subsidize ethanol. We need a cheap dollar to keep union manufacturing jobs from going to China.  Meanwhile, strife starts in the Middle East over high food prices caused by the cheap dollar and ethanol policy.  The price of oil rises significantly because of it.  Answer, blame the oil speculators-maybe that will get his approval ratings up.

The real answer is end the ethanol subsidies, and the subsidies for grain crops.  Let the market set the price.

The Hayak Institute is having a conference.  Will the Republican policies keep America from becoming a welfare state?  Short answer I think is no, they will just slow it down a little.
