Mitt Romney Declares for the Presidency

Mitt Romney said he would form an exploratory committee for President.  I would tell him to save his money, and anyone donating to save their money too. It’s not that I don’t like Mitt.  He has solid credentials, was a businessman, etc.  But Governor Romney has a black mark.  It’s called Romneycare and it’s one of the reasons the state of Massachusetts is in bad fiscal shape.

Sure, Romney got elected in a blue state, but so did Tim Pawlenty and Pawlenty didn’t enact a big program to try and figure out health care.

I think the Tea Party movement is gaining steam, not losing it.  Romney is not a Tea Partier.

There are candidates that can provide some Tea Party credentials, Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman for example. But there are problems with each.  No doubt, they will both run.  But, I don’t think Ms. Palin is electable.  She resigned rather than stick it out in Alaska and while I understand the reasons does she think the hot lights of the White House will be any different?

Other candidates are swirling about, Haley Barbour from Mississippi, Mitch Daniels from Indiana, Huntsman from Utah, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and Donald Trump.  Of these, Barbour or Daniels have the best shot.  Barbour simply from a leadership perspective.  Just look at what he did with Katrina, and how his coast recovered relative to how the Democrats ran Louisiana.  Daniels for his fiscal prowess in an executive position.

But, there is one young gun out there that ought to run.  Paul Ryan.  He took on Obama and made points in the Health Care debate.  He understands the Tea Party.  He is an agent of change.  He demonstrated leadership skills in the recent budget battle.  Paul Ryan, the Republican nomination is yours for the taking.
