TLP: Two Minutes in the Penalty Box for Trying Too Hard

Never mind the “show me the body” questions that are out there about Osama bin Laden, sometimes you can push something too far. Today’s example, forced spontaneity.
While crowds of revelers did party it up at Ground Zero and engage in frat boy patriotism upon hearing news of Osama bin Laden’s death, the same fervor couldn’t be mustered up the following day on the subway by the videographer in this recently uploaded YouTube clip.He can’t understand why fellow straphangers refuse to join him in a spontaneous chant of U-S-A- and basically blames it on the L train, writing:
I attempted this the first day after news of Osama Bin Laden’s death. FAIL. “next stop Bedford Ave” should have warned me.Actually the tired look on their faces was warning enough.
Add to that the fact that it’s been a good 30 years since that chant started all by itself at an Olympic hockey game. It might be a little tired, too, not to mention overused. Also, it probably wasn’t a good idea to start by asking “anybody with a pair” to join in. Not exactly flattery and he’s probably lucky the glares weren’t followed by a kick to his pair.
