Obama Makes An Interesting Point

Yesterday, Obama held a campaign press conference. In it, he vilified corporate jets, and again went after the rich people that make $250,000 a year or more.

Inside polling must be at that $250k number. Corporate Jets must have polled well too.

I went online to see how much it cost to get a corporate jet. Hey look, here is an “empty leg special”. This is someone who has room on their trip for someone else. They are looking to defray a part of the cost. Kind of like car pooling. Paris, France to New Jersey is $32,000. Van Nuys, CA to Vegas is $4500. At United, a first class airfare from LA to Vegas is $1252.00. Speaking for the plus 250 class, no one in the $250-1m per year class is flying private-unless the company is picking it up. To tell you the truth, most of the time we pay for coach and try to get upgraded to first because of all the miles we log….. working.

Since I knew I’d never pay up to fly corporate on someone else’s jet, why not just buy one of my own. Hell, I am rich according to our President. I have earned it haven’t I? Here are a few listings of corporate jets for sale. The cheapest can be yours for a mere $2.7 million. That’s not exactly the same as buying a Porsche.

Where it really gets interesting is when you break the 250k stat down in terms of population percentage. Only around 2% of the people in America make more than $250,000 per year.

Let’s look at population percentages of other small groups. Jews for example are around 1.7% of the US population. Muslims are .5%. Hispanics are 16.3%, Asians 4.8%, Blacks 12.6%, and Right wing Christian conservatives 25-30%.

Obama obviously can’t target a specific ethnic group. He can’t say, “I am only going to raise taxes on the Jews.” Or, “I am only going to raise taxes on the Muslims.” Not only is it unethical, but to target one specific group in our society is un-American. However, when he goes after the plus 250k per year group, that’s exactly what he is doing. It’s just this, an income group is faceless. Much easier to attack them than one specific ethnic group.

But look out, when a government can pick winners and losers and target one group over another, what happens when they turn their guns on yours?
