“T- 10, 9, 8, 7, 6…

“We have main engine start…”

“4, 3, 2, 1…”

“And lift off!”

Flames billowed outwards from beneath the space shuttle launch pad.

“Lift-off of the 25th space shuttle mission and it is clear of the tower. “

But there is a faulty O-ring… The most powerful rocket boosters ever flown, and the first of their kind ever used for human spaceflight, seep gases out and into the external propellant tank.

Seventy three seconds after lift-off…

The space shuttle is thrown sideways into a 1,334.8 mph wind stream.

It disintegrates. The cockpit is still intact… but hits the water at 200 mph, confirming the death all seven crew members.

Few events have ever caused news to spread so fast.

The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster took place almost a decade ago, twenty miles east of Cape Canaveral. Fragments of almost half the vehicle’s unrecovered remains still wash ashore occasionally on the coast of Brevard County, Florida.

Fortunately, last week, Cape Canaveral saw an event that ended up entirely differently. And it signified how far our technological capabilities have come in ten years.

More importantly for you, this event is ushering in realistic investment opportunities as we enter into the age of the Space Rush. Like the Gold Rush of the 1800’s, this era will have a profound impact on a variety of industries.

Particularly, the precious metals market. But I’m getting ahead of myself…

First, you should know about how history was made last week.

The private company SpaceX used its robotic space capsule Dragon to complete the first-ever commercial-cargo delivery to The International Space Station orbiting earth. This was the first of at least twelve resupply missions that SpaceX will fly for NASA under a $1.6 billion contract.

The Dragon was grappled by a NASA crew –apparently flawlessly– and attached in place for an expected eighteen day stay.

“Looks like we’ve tamed the Dragon,” remarked Expedition 33 Commander Sunita Williams of NASA.

Thus far, only SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft is capable of both carrying significant amounts of cargo to the station and also returning cargo back to Earth.

The crew has begun to unload crew supplies, vehicle hardware, experiments, and an ultra-cold freezer for storing scientific samples. Dragon will be filled with materials to support 166 experiments in plant cell biology, human biotechnology, and materials technology.

“This is a big moment in the course of this mission and for commercial spaceflight,” said SpaceX CEO and Chief Technical Officer Elon Musk.

Elon Musk is the principle visionary who’s put SpaceX ahead of the game.

He knows what this feat means…

Whereas only four countries proved to have these kinds of capabilities before, now the private sector is picking up the slack… and creating a magnificent amount of innovation and wealth in the process.

But when it comes to the Space Rush, Musk isn’t the only player on earth.

The company backed by Google’s CEO Larry Page and executive chairman Eric Schmidt, former Microsoft chief architect Charles Simonyi, and Ross Perot Jr. Advisors include super-star filmmaker James Cameron, former astronaut Tom Jones, former JPL engineer Chris Lewicki, and planetary scientist Sara Seager.

Why exactly have all these heavy weight entrepreneurs come together?

With earth’s population climbing exponentially, and resources therefore depleting, they’re thinking outside the box… to say the least.

They plan to mine near earth asteroids that contain an abundance of precious metals and water… redefining what “natural” resources really means.

How far along are they?

Just recently, they sent out an e-mail out titled “Do you want to be an Asteroid Miner? Well, here’s your chance!” To develop the technologies to mine these asteroids, they’re recruiting college students.

The e-mail states:

“We’re looking for passionate college students for paid coop positions to help us mine asteroids this spring and summer,” it reads. “If you love space and want to contribute directly to the development of the next generation of space exploration technologies, we want to hear from you (or from anyone you know that you think would be interested). So tell the kids that the future isn’t so dark after all. I’m sure there will be plenty of pessimists and nay-Sayers (there always are). But pessimism has never achieved much. When times are stormy, it’s easy to forget that there’s a sun shining through on the other side of the clouds.

It’s only a matter of time before the human species acts even further on its instinct to explore, make use of available resources, and ultimately innovate to survive. When you consider that many of the precious metals we mine out of the earth are places of asteroid impacts in the first place, the Space Rush enterprises become a no-brainer.

The investment implications are truly extraordinary. There are trillions of dollars that will be generated.
