ICC International Cannabis poised to develop first cannabinoid biosynthesis platform alongside drugs titans

ICC International Cannabis Corp (CSE:WRLD.U) (OTCMKTS:WLDCF) is poised to develop, alongside some very big names in the drugs world,  the first cannabinoid biosynthesis platform to mass produce cannabis compounds in a cheaper way than conventional growing and extraction processes.

The firm, together with Biotti Technologies, has struck what’s called a cannabinoid pharmaceutical advisory agreement with Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Biogen advisor and cannabinoid expert Dr. Alexandros Makriyannis.

International Cannabis has a strategic investment in Boston, Massachusetts-based Biotii,  which is a private biotech.

By 2020, ICC said it and Biotii plan to have established a process to efficiently mass-produce CBD/THC in quantities of hundreds of metric tonnes per year, which boast stable and consistent yields, pharmaceutical-grade purities, and the lowest production costs in the industry.

Traditional cultivation of cannabis plants to extract cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), THC and CBD is time, labor and resource intensive that can result in depressed extraction yields of around 2.5%, noted ICC.

“Developing a scaled cannabinoid biosynthesis platform requires comprehensive knowledge of precise biochemical processes within the human metabolism of cannabinoids,” said David Shpilt, ICC’s chief executive.

“With Dr. Makriyannis’ guidance, ICC and Biotii are better equipped than ever to produce the absolute highest quality of cannabinoids, far exceeding industry standards, within the cannabis, food, and pharmaceutical verticals,” he added.

Shpilt noted that Makriyannis’ experience of advising food conglomerates, such as Nestlé S.A was closely aligned with upcoming amendments to Health Canada regulations, including the recently announced schedule to legalize cannabis edibles in  the fourth quarter of 2019 or the first quarter of 2020.

Dr. Makriyannis’ previous advisory clientele includes such giants as Pfizer, Bristol Myers, Nestle and Glaxo Wellcome.

Championing a long-term focus

It’s been a busy period for ICC. Last week, the group revealed it had inked an exclusive supply and commercial rights agreement with medical cannabis company NUBU Pharmaceuticals in New Zealand.

Under the terms, the Vancouver-based cannabis company will supply NUBU with a suite of full-spectrum pharmaceutical grade medical cannabis products.
