Ozop Surgical wins GHP's “Most Innovative Surgical Implants and Instrument Manufacturer” award

Ozop Surgical Corp (OTCMKTS:OZSC), a spinal surgical device producer, has won GHP Magazine’s coveted “Most Innovative Surgical Implants & Instrumentation Manufacturer” award.

According to the award presenters, the judging process was focused on in-depth evaluation of skills, services and the wider market reputation of each nominee.

In a statement, Ozop CEO Michael Chermak acknowledged that it is always an honor to be recognized by healthcare industry opinion leaders and said: ”Ozop Surgical is on a mission to economically disrupt the orthopaedic and neurosurgical markets by providing premium quality surgical devices that result in significant savings for providers, payors, and patients.”

“We continue to design and manufacture next generation surgical solutions, with the goal of reducing blood loss, operative time and recovery time,” he added.

Chermak said that as “a small, nimble company” Ozop is able to focus on its core areas of expertise and develop and bring to market products “faster than larger competitors.”

“This will remain the firm’s focus as it prepares to launch several new products in the upcoming months,” noted Chermak.

GHP Magazine said it uncovers “talented, courageous and innovative” people and firms pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the medical world and shares it with its 260,000-strong readership.

BLIF technology

A key area of focus for West Palm Beach, Florida-bsead Ozop Surgical is development of balloon lumbar interbody fusion (BLIF) technology for minimally invasive spine surgery.

Medical-quality balloons are routinely used for opening clogged arteries, repairing broken bones and other procedures. The advantage of a balloon is that it can be inserted into a small incision and then inflated to the proper size. With BLIF, according to Ozop, a needle or wire is used to get to a damaged disc. Once imaging confirms placement, a small tube is placed over the needle or wire. Through this portal, an endoscope can be used to view the disc and damaged tissue is removed. The surrounding muscle and tissue are protected from damage by the tube.

Once the damaged material has been removed, the disc is measured and a balloon is inserted and filled with a hardening polymer. A surgeon can then fill in the area around the implant with bone graft to help promote fusion of the spine.

In addition, the company has begun development of an enhanced expandable anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) implant, with initial designs and prototypes completed. This product, according to Ozop, is easier to insert and use than competing products.
