Happy 33rd

Today is our 33rd anniversary.  What a long strange trip it has been.  I scrolled through my photos and I don’t have any in my cloud of that day.  The church was warm and I was sweating profusely.  One of my groomsmen passed out and it sounded like a gunshot echoing through the sanctuary.  Of course, it was at the time the minister said, “Let them speak now or forever hold your peace.”

I guess when you hit 33 years you are an “older” couple.  I know a lot of younger people that are reticent to get married but if you have found a good partner go ahead and do it.  We certainly didn’t have everything figured out then and I doubt we have everything figured out today.

This year we were supposed to be going to our daughter’s wedding.  She and her fiance were getting married over Memorial Day.  They postponed it to August.  Then, they just canceled it because of the draconian policies of the Covid Governors.  They will get married in a very very very small civil ceremony this year.  They’ll do the religious ceremony next year.  Crazy how the dominoes fall but that is life.

Last year, we “celebrated” at the National World War Two Museum.  Like all museums, the WW2 Museum has been affected by Covid.  If you feel compelled help them here.

We are “celebrating” by continuing a rehab of the cabin next door to ours.  My father purchased it. While it had gigantic outsized sentimental value to everyone in our family since my grandfather built it there was a need for an update.  The black flies started to come out yesterday and if you know anything about those little buggers they are maddening.  When it’s done, it will look slightly different but much if it will seem the exact same.  We did our cabin and learned a lot about the process.  It’s not easy despite their small size.

My wife told me this is our 6th rehab.  Uff da.  I am getting too old for this!  We rehabbed our first house in Elmhurst back in 1989.  It was a process.  We know what we are doing now and can get it done pretty quickly but if I have to rehab again I think the heavy lifting will be hired out.

I am hoping to knock off a bit early and spend some time on the deck looking at the lake grilling a porterhouse that I brought up from Chicago.  Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend and remember why we are getting a day off.
