K-12 Charter Disruption

Hillsdale College is in Michigan.  It’s a small college.  It’s a shining light for the liberal values that America was founded on.  Every student that goes to Hillsdale understands exactly what the Constitution means when they graduate.

With the Covid crisis, we have seen huge cracks emerge in the United States educational system.  It’s clear that public schools are not up to the challenge of actually educating children.  Neither are many colleges and universities.  Instead of educating, they are passing them along or worse, indoctrinating them with ideas that are antithetical to the liberal values that America was founded on.  It’s one of the reasons we have so much strife today.

Hillsdale is going to start a K-12 charter school system that is based on teaching those values.  I donated today and hope you can donate too.  If you donate $100, you get a book by the Hillsdale college president on Winston Churchill.  For those that don’t recall, Churchill saved Western Civilization back in 1938.

Charter schools all over the US do way better at educating children than public schools.  We see it over and over in urban area after urban area.  Thankfully, Florida just ramped up its funding for school vouchers so parents can have school choice and give their kids a shot at a better life than they would have had if they were forced to march to crappy public schools.

Funding public schools more are not the answer.  We have done that to years and we see the result.  Teachers unions and the bureaucratic apparatus that runs the public school system eat most of that cash.  My father was a public school teacher.  I am a product of public school and university.  But, things have changed.   I sent my kids to private schools.  Thankfully, I could afford it.

People totally misunderstand what it means to have liberal values.  Milton Friedman exhibited them.  It means freedom of choice, individual liberty, private property rights and capitalistic free markets.  It means taking risks and being compensated for it, or accepting the responsibility when you fail.
