Trillium Gold Mines reveals high-grade, visible gold results from its Newman Todd property in Ontario

Trillium Gold Mines Inc (CVE:TGM) (OTCQX:TGLDF) (FRA:0702) reported additional results from the company’s 2020 drill program at its flagship Newman Todd Property in Red Lake, Ontario, which included 16.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold over 3.9 metres (m).

Trillium Gold noted that three of the five drill holes contained visible gold and the company is planning to start 25,000 to 35,000 (m) of drilling across the Rivard, Newman Todd and Gold Centre zones before mid-January.   

“Our geologists have done an incredible job in a very short period of time re-interpreting historical drill results and targeting high grade and VG at Newman Todd,” Trillium Gold Mines CEO Russell Starr said in a statement.

He added: “Being able to follow Rivards high grade veins into the Newman Todd structure and encounter VG is an exceptional feat. Having a geological team with more than 100 years combined Red Lake exploration and production experience running our drill program should give shareholders further confidence for our upcoming 25,000 – 35,000 meter program.”

Trillium Gold Vice President of Exploration William Paterson also weighed in on the results, stating: “This follow-on phase of drilling has continued to uphold our re-interpretation of the controls of the high-grade gold mineralization at Newman Todd (NT) and with updated modeling I expect this to continue allowing us to enhance the overall project.”

He added: “The VG intercept in hole NT20-175 shows us that there is still more gold to be found outside of the NT zone, in the hangingwall.”

The company also noted that drilling intersected Rivard-style veins in the Newman Todd structure, with assay results pending on four holes from its 2020 drilling.

During 2020, Trillium Gold completed 6,027 m of drilling in 16 holes at Newman Todd, which was the first drilling done on the property since 2013.    

The Newman Todd Zone is currently a 2.2 kilometres (km) long and up to 200 m wide structural target.

The company said drilling from 2013 and earlier had mostly focused on testing the zone by targeting the footwall with drilling toward the southeast, now known to be sub-parallel to gold mineralized veining and structures, potentially missing high-grade intersections or undercutting much of the targeted zone.

Trillium Gold said it believes Newman Todd is a highly-prospective target with 41% of the 165 historic drill holes having intervals of greater than 20 g/t gold over various lengths, with nearly all drilling having been done to depths less than 400 m.

The company added that it will continue to test various drill orientations in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of the mineralization and structural controls and test the depth potential of the Newman Todd Zone, as the Red Lake Camp is known for high-grade gold mineralization at depth, with Evolution Mining’s Red Lake Gold Mine currently reaching depths of several thousands of feet.
