Empower Clinics obtains MDEL status to sell KAI Medical coronavirus test kits in Canada

Empower Clinics Inc (CBDT:CSE) (OTCQB:EPWCF) said Wednesday it had secured a license to sell coronavirus (COVID-19) saliva test kits in Canada. 

The Vancouver-based company obtained the Medical Device Establishment Licence (MDEL) status to sell the KAI Medical saliva tests, which are FDA EUA approved for use, has CE Mark and the saliva specimen collection device is approved by Health Canada.

KAI Saliva provides travellers, both foreign and domestic with a no-fuss, compliant method to obtain an RT-PCR test and test result prior to arriving or coming back to Canada or going to other countries under similar travel restrictions. 

Empower had previously filed its MDEL application to import, distribute and sell KAI Saliva, and to accelerate the process, the group partnered with MediPro Canada Inc to utilize their approved MDEL status. MediPro provides healthcare products for governments, large corporations and medical facilities around the world.

Ensuring safe travel

Empower is marketing KAI Saliva to major airlines, cruise lines and the tourism sector by including KAI Saliva as part of the ticketing purchase, the check-in process, in a kiosk, or on an e-commerce website.

“We all have an urgent requirement for a home-based, self-administered COVID-19 saliva test kit that can help open up the economy and facilitate travel that meets the requirements of the executive travel orders,” added Empower CEO Steven McAuley.

“We also must utilize our resources, our reach, our capability, do everything we can to assist, be humanitarians, use our voice, strive to provide improved healthcare, and lead the path of progressive healthcare.”

Wednesday’s news is the latest in a string of positive developments for the company, which announced earlier this week that it is partnering with Canada’s Rexall pharmacies to launch the first of multiple integrated healthcare centres in Ontario. The news sent Empower’s stock soaring over 50% in Canada and the US.
