Arcadia Biosciences receives Health Canada approval for its GoodHemp seed varieties

Arcadia Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:RKDA) (FRA:17D) has said that three of its GoodHemp seed varieties have earned approval from Health Canada for consistency and compliance.

The company said the Health Canada approval broadens the geographic opportunities for GoodHemp and enables growers to access these high-quality seeds through Tritium 3H Inc, which distributes the GoodHemp seed varieties and genetics in Canada, for the 2021 growing season.

“The Health Canada approval demonstrates the stability and compliance of our cultivars,” Arcadia Biosciences CEO Matt Plavan said in a statement.

“We are happy to report we have already shipped the first GoodHemp seed order to Tritium 3H to bring our CBD-dominant, short-day varieties to Canada’s industrial hemp growers for the 2021 planting season,” Plavan added.

Tritium 3H CEO Jayme Hunter also commented, stating: “These GoodHemp varieties performed well in our 2020 field trials with excellent yield, uniformity and quality; they are hybrids with excellent performance potential in Canada’s hemp growing regions.”

The GoodHemp varieties approved by Health Canada include:

• Umpqua, a CBD-dominant, early photoperiod variety for both the smokable and CBD extraction markets that is prized for its unique terpene profile
• Rogue, a CBD-dominant, high-yielding intermediate photoperiod variety for the CBD extraction markets that brings exceptional yields under low planting densities
• Santiam, a CBD-dominant, early photoperiod variety with exceptional utility in northern latitudes for both the smokable and CBD extraction markets that delivers step-change yield potential

Arcadia noted that it has been rapid-prototyping novel non-genetically modified hemp varieties that target quality and performance characteristics highly desired by growers to overcome their greatest challenges.

It added that its GoodHemp commercial portfolio of hemp seeds, transplants and extracts have been field-tested extensively in regional and national trials by the T3H and Arcadia teams.

Arcadia Biosciences is focused on science-based approaches to enhancing the quality and nutritional value of crops and food ingredients.
